 ASSOCIATED PORTLAND CEMENT have        
 reported an increase of nearly         
 1O million pounds in profits for the   
 first half of the year.                
                                        
 The total before tax was 19,1OO,OOO    
 pounds, compared with 9,5OO,OOO in the 
 first half of last year.               
                                        
 The directors said the increase came   
 mainlu from economy measures which     
 benefited UK operations, and price     
 increases allowed in the second half
